Who knew I would be helping with a last minute request from a 6 year old who just had to have a Monarch caterpillar cake?
At first it was just going to be a caterpillar.
But then she got quite specific so this is what we whipped up.
Can you believe all I had to buy was the cake mix? Licorice, M&Ms, cake decorating tips, large box and even a liner paper for the grass were all just sitting around here. I guess that is why they come to me. I always have plenty of 'stuff'. I just hope it passes the 6 year old's expectations.
Now back to Christmas stuff...

Wow, I bet she loved her caterpillar cake, I love it. You did a great job and nice you had everything except the cake mix. How did you do the yellow stripes? I am just in awe as I did not think you would use cupcakes, but what a great way to create this very special cake. I just noticed the legs that you made with licorice.
The spikes are out of licorice too. The stripes are done with a decorating tip that makes ridges on one side (in this case the bottom) and flat on the other side.
As we were frosting these we thought that each individual cupcake resembled a bumble bee if you just added a licorice spike stinger.
