Finishing Halloween for this year

Here are the little ghost napkin rings that I made after the spider ones. Some even had eyelashes!

Today I finally found time to carve some apples.

I know it takes time for them to turn into shrunken heads even though I speeded up the process in the oven. This one looks pretty cool already. Next year maybe I will start earlier.

I had a number of ghoulish recipes I wanted to try but this was the only one I had time for and really it is a combination of two using those 'peanut' candies cut in half with a piece of pretzel for the stem.

I am tired but enjoyed this Halloween with several family and friends joining me. I hope it was a fun and safe holiday for each of you.

Still crafting for Halloween

The girls were not interested in doing these other candle holders in decoupage but I had a vision.

So here they are in the light.

But so much more fun with the lights off.

I also wasn't quite finished with those pot shaped holders. They aren't for Halloween but thought I would include them anyway.

I thought it showed how easy it was to use tissue paper with decoupage.

What else we 'Webbed'

While we were crafting with the black webbing we decided to try decorating a framed photo.

So we took apart a frame intending to spray just the glass but this frame had the glass glued in place so we just turned it over.

We taped an oval paper to the center to mask that area.

And Kristy sprayed a few layers from different angles.

And I printed off a photo to insert. Do you recognize this character?

Halloween Webbing Continues

Today we had beautiful weather so we got the black webbing out and sprayed a few more things. It is just so much fun that we kept thinking of more things to try. Like these pencils.

And some large orange ornaments that were sitting in the garage left over from another project.

Kristy is getting really good at this.

She keeps adding to it from different angles.

It gradually builds up.

What a really neat effect. I haven't decided just yet what to do with these.

The Crafting Place

After shopping with my daughter this afternoon (which included supplies for MORE projects) I came home and whipped up another batch of cupcakes since the ghost cookies are long gone (more to come) and cupcakes were dwindling.

These ghost cupcakes were supposed to glow in the dark. They did not but they are at least good.

I had several taste testers as my granddaughter and her friends came over tonight to use my press. It is absolutely awesome when it comes to ironing on letters etc. on t-shirts.

Then the painting began. Food, friends and crafting. This is the place.

Another Halloween Craft

I am still not finished making the Halloween decorations I want this year.

Here is a tea towel I wanted to try drawing on. I am going to see how this one washes up before I make any more. I do not have enough Halloween tea towels right now.

It was fast and easy and I had some tea towels on hand and used a pen set I had that says it is waterproof. As I was doing it I thought of the Zen Tangles I have been playing with and thought that this would be a fun and productive 'canvas'.

*NOTE: This faded considerably when I washed it so I will have to look for different pens to use as this was fun.

Webbing

Quite some time ago - maybe even last year - I saw this webbing used on paper for a really neat effect.

It is like a cross between spray paint and silly string. Lots and lots of fun and varying how much you shake the can varies the effect.

I couldn't wait to make some cards with it!

Decorated for the kids

Here is the dining room table with some goodies. Just waiting for family and friends.

These sprinkles are shaped like little bones and I couldn't resist trying them on on some cupcakes. The same reason I got the silver sprinkles.

Family and friends will be coming by tomorrow so I made sure the candy dishes on the coffee table were filled.

The Halloween album is out so they can remember past holidays.

The quilts are hung and the decorations placed.

Even the haunted house puzzle is ready.

I still have a few more things I want to make but basically I am ready!

The Rest of the Clay

Remember when WE baked the clay candy corn beads? You may have wondered at that time what those other white round things were.

Here they are before they were baked with the 'tools' I used. Have you guessed yet what they are? I rolled out the clay to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness and cut it with the old film canister. I pressed a cork in the center to form the indentation and a toothpick to form the holes.

Buttons. We made buttons and beads. These buttons have 9 holes. Not that they needed to be secure but so you can stitch any number or letter in them. I used embroidery floss and the letters O and Z.

Because they went on this Dorothy costume for my granddaughter. Yes, she is in college but works with children so needed costumes to wear all this month and Dorothy has always been her favorite. In fact this is the third Dorothy costume I have made for her over the years! But I enjoyed trying out this new clay project for it.

Something Else

So when we finished the ribbon ornaments in the last post Kristy and I decided to try this other ornament from an old magazine. Summer had to leave to pick up her girls so she missed this one. The article had no directions so once again we were on our own figuring it out.

Again we began at the bottom of the 3" styrofoam egg with sequin pins to secure each bangle sequin.

Kristy pinned hers closer together than I did and I liked hers better. The flash really brought out color in these hologram style silver sequins. I have also seen them called sequin paillettes.

Once again we added the ribbon loops on top. This ornament went much faster as there was no folding and cutting involved. Kristy is excited to make more of these as well. I also had some gold paillettes with gold pins which should give a nice effect too. I look forward to seeing those when she makes them.

Christmas Ornaments at Last!

Today Kristy arrived for crafts right after Summer with baby Madeline. But first we had a bite of lunch. Crab loaf and watermelon (not pictured).

Then we dove into our first Christmas ornament. We did not have any clear cut instructions but together we figured it out. We used two rolls of 2 1/2" wide wired ribbon in different patterns/colors which is cut in half lengthwise and into 2" lengths. I think we each did this differently. Personally I cut the ribbon into 2" length and then folded it in half and cut along the fold.

Each end is folded to meet in the center and this point is laid onto a 3" styrofoam egg. We began at the bottom with four points meeting at the tip. We used very short sequin pins; one on each side of the base to secure it to the egg. The points remain free.

Every row after this one has eight alternating points.

Here is the one Summer made. A length of ribbon is looped beginning with one long loop for hanging and 8 to 12 smaller loops. Secure this to the top with a corsage pin.

Kristy and I used gold and green with a narrower green ribbon top.

I neglected to mention that the last row of points on the top is only 4 points again and we found it helped to fold the side edges in to the center in order for them to fit. I apologize for not getting a picture of that and Kristy took the rest of the supplies home with her to make many more.

While I liked how mine turned out it was too hard on my hands to make more so I was ready to move on to something else.
